Deputy Charged With Second Degree Rape Suspended

Statement from Sheriff High

Upper Marlboro, MD… Sheriff Melvin C. High said he was informed late this afternoon that the County Police have charged Sheriff Deputy Lamar McIntyre, with Second Degree Rape of a female inmate. As a result of the felony charge, McIntyre will be suspended without pay. McIntyre was hired by the Sheriff’s Office on September 14, 2009.

Sheriff High issued the following statement:

“My office was notified of the allegations against Deputy McIntyre last night. Upon that notification we cooperated fully and arranged to have the deputy picked up by County Police when he arrived for work this morning at the court house.

We have an obligation to take any allegation of misconduct seriously. What has been alleged is that a deputy unlawfully took advantage of a person in our custody.

We are continuing to cooperate with the ongoing criminal investigation and are conducting our own internal investigation.

I am outraged and saddened by this betrayal of the public’s trust. Such behavior goes against the oath we take to uphold the highest standards and values.”
