Sheriff’s Explorers Post Honored at Awards Banquet

The Prince George’s County Sheriffs Explorer Post 1696 was honored with the “Gold Award” Friday evening at the 2nd Annual Officer Adrian Morris Memorial Law Enforcement Explorer Awards Banquet.  The award recognized post 1696 for completing over 1000 hours of community service during 2012. Lieutenant Yakeisha Hines, Coordinator of the Sheriff’s Explorer Program, was also honored with the President’s Call to Service Award, which recognized her for completing more than 4000 lifetime community service hours with the Explorers Program.

Deputies Close Two Warrants With Arrest of Felony Theft Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest yesterday of Margaret Cartwright on separate bench warrants for Felony Theft Scheme and Driving on a Suspended License, issued by the District Court of Maryland on January 7, 2013 and December 10, 2012, respectively.

According to the theft warrant, Cartwright stole over $9,000.00 dollars from her workplace at the Rivertowne 12 Cinemas, in Oxon Hill, MD, between July 1, 2012 and July 3, 2012. The warrant states that the owner of the business contacted police after learning that Cartwright had failed to make required cash deposits of the business’s receipts.

Deputies investigating Cartwright’s whereabouts were led to the 6300 block of 85th Pl. in Hyattsville, MD, where she was located and apprehended without incident. Cartwright also had an open warrant for Driving on a Suspended License.

The District Court of Maryland was notified of Cartwright’s arrest and she was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections – charged with Theft Scheme and Driving on a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Attempted Murder Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest yesterday of Jeff Crews on an arrest warrant for Attempted Second Degree Murder obtained by County Police District IV detectives on January 20, 2013.

According to the warrant, Crews attempted to rob a male victim in the 2500 block of Corning Ave. in Fort Washington, MD, on January 17, 2013. The warrant further states that Crews pointed a black handgun at the victim and ordered him not to run. After a brief physical altercation the victim was struck in the face several times with the gun, and had his jacket and cell phone stolen. The victim attempted to flee the scene, prompting Crews to fire several shots at him.

Deputies investigating Crews’ whereabouts were led to the 9300 block of Hobart St. in Springdale, MD, where he was located and apprehended without incident.

District IV detectives were notified of Crews’ arrest and he was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections – charged with Attempted Second Degree  Murder, Armed Robbery, Robbery, First and Second Degree Assault and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.

Deputies Close Two Warrants With Arrest of Theft Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest yesterday of Isaiah Weston Jr. on a bench warrant for Theft Scheme, issued by the District Court of Maryland on November 13, 2012.

According to the warrant, Weston made fraudulent returns of merchandise to JC Penny stores throughout Prince George’s County. The warrant further states that the JC Penny Loss Prevention Department notified police after they discovered that between February 2, 2012 and August 12, 2012, Weston conducted approximately $20,000.00 in fraudulent returns.

Deputies investigating Weston’s whereabouts were led to the 8900 block of Walkerton Dr. in Lanham, MD, where he was located and arrested. Weston also had an open warrant for Failure to Appear for Driving on a Suspended License.

The District Court was notified of Weston’s arrest and he was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections – charged with Felony Theft Scheme and Failure to Appear for Driving on a Suspended License.

Deputies Close Two Warrants with Arrest of Felony Theft Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest Thursday of Jonathan Warren on two arrest warrants for Felony Theft obtained by County Police District I detectives on February 12, 2013.
 
According to the warrant, Warren possessed stolen items and sold them to a pawn shop in the 4800 block of Allentown Rd. in Camp Springs, MD, on October 24, 2012. The stolen items, which included two IPods, a digital camera, a fog machine, and various items of jewelry, had an estimated value of $1350.00. Warren sold the items, which were later determined to be stolen, from separate victims in Charles County, MD, for a total of $220.00.

Deputies investigating the whereabouts of Warren were led to the 1600 block of Pin Oak Dr. in Waldorf, MD, where they located and arrested him without incident. District I detectives were notified of Warren’s arrest, and he was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections – charged two counts of Felony Theft.

U.S. Marshals Task Force Arrests First Degree Assault/ Armed Robbery Suspect


Upper Marlboro, MD… The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest yesterday by the U.S. Marshals Task Force of Terry Savoy on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault, obtained by County Police District V detectives on February 13, 2013.

When a Waldorf address for Savoy proved inaccurate, additional information on his whereabouts led the U.S. Marshals Task Force to the 3900 block of 26th Street, Chesapeake Beach in Calvert County. Found at the location, Savoy was transported to the Prince George’s County Correction Center where he was being held on a $30,000.00 bond. He was released after posting bond.

“The U.S. Marshals Task Force continues to be outstanding at finding suspects who absolutely don’t want to be found” said Chief Assistant Sheriff Darrin Palmer. “We are proud to be on this team. It brings together law enforcement resources and personnel with experience and knowledge of local communities, the state and the region to locate and capture the most dangerous violent offenders”.

In addition to First Degree Assault, Savoy is also charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery, Theft: Less than $1,000.00 and Firearm Use during a Felonious Violent Crime.

Sheriff’s Office Partners with County’s Public Safety Assistance Program for Children’s Coat Drive

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Sheriff’s Community Partnerships Section partnered with the Prince George’s County Public Safety Assistance Program last week to deliver over 260 coats to children at several Prince George’s County Public Schools.

The Knights of Columbus donated the coats to the Public Safety Assistance Program, and they were distributed to students at Riverdale, Mount Rainier, and Baden Elementary Schools.

Bill Milligan, Coordinator for the County’s Public Safety Assistance Program said, “This program was a success because of the assistance we received from the Knights of Columbus. There are lots of happy, warm kids coming to school today.”

Colonel Darrin Palmer, Chief Assistant Sheriff, who helped deliver some of the coats said, “The Sheriff’s Office couldn’t be happier to partner with the Public Safety Assistance Program to deliver coats to students who need them.”

“Too many children spend the winter months without adequate clothing to keep them warm, but hopefully with this coat drive we’ve helped some of the students who needed it the most,” Col. Palmer said.

Sheriff’s Domestic Violence Intervention Deputies Make Drug Arrest While Serving Protective Order

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Domestic Violence Intervention Division reported the arrest Sunday of Kevin Johnson for illegal Possession Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute.

According to court documents, Deputies responded to a residence in the 3400 block of Parkway Terrace Dr. in Suitland, MD, to serve Johnson with a court issued Protective Order.

While at the residence deputies noticed that Johnson was in possession of, what they believed to be, marijuana and he was subsequently arrested.

The Protective Order was served and Johnson was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections – charged with Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Distribute.

Deputies Arrest Felony Assault Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest yesterday of Avery Lewis on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault, obtained by County Police District III detectives on January 4, 2013.

According to the warrant, Lewis was near the intersection of Kent Town Dr. and Firehouse Rd. in Landover, MD, when he approached 2 male victims and announced a robbery attempt. The warrant further states that Lewis demanded money from both victims, was denied, and subsequently sprayed mace into the eyes of the victims. Lewis then searched the pockets of both victims before fleeing the scene.

Deputies investigating the whereabouts of Lewis were led to the 5800 block of Allendale Dr. in Landover, MD, where he was located and arrested without incident.

District III detectives were notified of Lewis’ arrest, and he was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections – charged with First and Second Degree Assault, Use of a Chemical Device with Intent to Injure, and Robbery.

Deputies Assist Pennsylvania Authorities Arrest Suspect Wanted for “Interference With Custody of Children”

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Erica Holdsworth on an arrest warrant for Interference With Custody of Children (a felony) obtained by the Meadville City Police Department (MCPD) on January 30, 2013.

According to court documents, Holdsworth violated a custody order issued by the Court of Common Pleas, of Crawford County, PA, by failing to return her child to its primary custodian/guardian on January 30, 2013.  Holdsworth then allegedly fled the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and travelled to Maryland with child.

Deputies were contacted by Pennsylvania authorities and began an investigation into Holdsworth’s whereabouts. They were led to the 9000 block of 2nd St. in Lanham, MD, where she was located and apprehended without incident.

The MCPD was notified of the arrest and Holdsworth was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections – charged as a Fugitive from Crawford County, PA.

Deputies, U.S. Marshals and the Metropolitan Police Department Partner to Arrest 1st Degree Assault Suspect


Upper Marlboro, MD… The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest yesterday of DaAndre Pardlow on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault, obtained by County Police District II Detectives on January 29, 2013.

According to the warrant, on January 26, 2013, Pardlow and another suspect allegedly robbed a man of his belongings at gunpoint on Lottsford Road in Largo, MD. The warrant further indicates that the victim was struck by an ASP baton during the course of the robbery.

Deputies along with the U.S. Marshals and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) located Pardlow at an address in the 4900 block of Fitch Place, N.E., Washington D.C. Pardlow attempted to flee out of an upstairs bedroom window prior to being taken into custody. He was transported to the MPDC 6th District station.

Pending an extradition hearing, Pardlow will be extradited back to Prince George’s County.

Pardlow is also charged with Armed Robbery, and Firearm Use in the Commission of a Felonious Crime.

Warrant Division Arrests Attempted 1st Degree Murder Suspect


Upper Marlboro, MD… The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest today of Paul Henry on an arrest warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder, obtained by County Police District IV Detectives on February 1, 2013.

According to the warrant, on January 28, 2013, in the 4100 block of Branch Avenue in Temple Hills, MD, Henry is alleged to have brandished a handgun, opened fire and struck one of two men he is alleged to have been waiting for behind a dumpster. The warrant further indicates that the shooting may have been the result of an argument between the parties that occurred two weeks prior to the January 28th incident, over a video game bet.

Deputies investigating Henry’s whereabouts located him in the 5200 block of West Boniwood Turn in Clinton, MD where he was taken into custody without incident and transported to District IV detectives.

Henry is also charged with an additional count of Attempted First Degree Murder, two counts each of Attempted Second Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment and one count each of Handgun on Person and Firearm Use in the Commission of a Felonious Violent Crime.
