Warrant/Fugitive Division Felony Arrest Report #PGSO


Upper Marlboro, MD…The Sheriff’s Office Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the following felony arrests.
                                                               
  First Degree Murder

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Selvin Salazar of Wheaton, MD who was wanted on a warrant for First Degree Murder that was obtained by the Prince Georges County Police on January 25, 2015. According to the warrant, County Police obtained information that tied Salazar directly to the February of 2013 murder of Meyder Bladmir Yuman.  On January 27, 2015 County Police learned that Salazar was being released by US Marshals from the US Federal Courthouse in Greenbelt, MD. They notified Sheriff’s deputies who took custody of Salazar and transported him to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections (DOC) for processing.

Salazar is also charged with Murder Second Degree, Assault First Degree, Assault Second Degree, and Handgun on Person.  

Attempted First Degree Murder

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Markeith Garris of Hyattsville, MD, who was wanted on an arrested warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder that was obtained by County Police on January 19, 2015. According to the warrant, Garris got into an argument with a relative over a television set; when a second relative tried to intervene Garris threw a cup of gasoline on the person he was arguing with, setting him on fire. The victim suffered burns over several parts of his body.  Deputies attempted multiple times to locate Garris and left their contact information.  Garris called the Sheriff’s Office and after speaking with deputies, turned himself in to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections (DOC) for processing.
Garris is also being charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, Assault First Degree, Assault Second Degree, and Reckless Endanger.

Suspect Arrested for 1st Degree Assault

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/ Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Duane Lucas of Hyattsville, MD on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault that was obtained by Prince Georges County Police on January 3, 2015.

According to the warrant, on January 3rd, Lucas got into an argument at a residence in the 3200 block of Powder Mill Road in Hyattsville, MD, when Lucas retrieved an aluminum baseball bat and struck the victim in the back of the head as he tried to walk away. The warrant further states that Lucas broke all of the windows in the victim’s vehicle with the bat before he fled.

Upon receiving the warrant, the deputies’ investigation led them to the residence of a friend of the suspect who opened the door and allowed the deputies to enter.  Lucas was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Prince George’s County, MD Department of Corrections for processing.

Lucas was also charged with Assault Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment, and Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,000.

Sheriff Deputies Extradite Second Degree Murder Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/ Fugitive Division reported the extradition of Vinnie Taylor who had been arrested by the St. Louis Police Department on an arrest warrant for Second Degree Murder that was obtained by the Prince George’s County Police on December 10th, 2014.

According to the warrant, on March 20th Taylor was at a hotel located in Capitol Heights, MD, where he gave the victim injections into her buttocks for the purpose of increasing their size. The victim became ill and checked herself into a local hospital where she later died. Detectives were unable to locate any evidence to support that Taylor had any medical training. The warrant also states that the doctor ruled the manner of the victim’s death a homicide.

Deputies traveled to Saint Louis, MO to transport Taylor back so he could appear in the District Court of Maryland for Prince Georges County to face the charge of Murder in the Second Degree. Taylor is also charged with Assault First Degree and Reckless Endangerment.

Suspect Arrested for 1st Degree Arson #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/ Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Juanel Huff of Lanham, MD on an arrest warrant for Arson First Degree that was obtained by the Office of the Fire Marshall on 12/29/14.

According to the warrant, in the early morning of November 5th, in the 8500 block of Fulton Avenue in Glenarden, MD, Huff set fire to her mattress inside a home that was occupied by three other individuals and left. The occupants were alerted to the fire by the alarm of the smoke detector; the fire caused damage to the residence of approximately $8,000.00. The warrant also states that on December 10th, Huff went to the Prince George’s County Police District IV station and told the clerk that she had caused the fire. Fire Marshall Investigators responded and interviewed her.

Upon receipt of the warrant, Deputies went to the residence and noticed Huff walking toward the home. They took her into custody without incident. Huff was transported to the Prince George’s County, MD Department of Corrections.

Huff is also charged with Arson in the Second Degree, Malicious Burning First Degree, and Malicious Destruction of Property.

Warrant Backlog Under 40,000 (Levels Not Seen Since 2007)

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Sheriff’s Office Warrant/Fugitive Division reported that the warrant backlog that was over 53,000 four years ago is below 40,000 - a level not seen since 2007.
The news from the Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division comes on the heels of the Crime Reduction Press Conference held yesterday at the Community of Hope AME Church in Temple Hills, MD, where Sheriff  Melvin C. High joined Governor O’Malley and various county leaders including Prince George’s County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III, County Police Department Chief Mark A. Magaw, County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks, Council Chairman Mel Franklin, Council Member Karen Toles and members of the community to report 2014 Crime Reduction in Prince George’s County.

Referring to remarks he made at the press conference, Sheriff High said, “Four years ago, we set priorities to be successful in our work and to reach goals like this one. That priority was to apprehend violent crime offenders.  In addition, we committed to staying ahead of new warrants coming in and to stopping the growth trend of the backlog,” said Sheriff High.

“Under the Warrant/Fugitive Division, we’ve developed a multi-pronged strategy to manage our warrant process for all types of warrants, even as we stay focused on violent offenders. We’ve serve warrants through arrests, extradition, the enormous success of the team we put on cold cases and warrant operations we undertake throughout the year with assistance from other law enforcement partners. We have a productive interface with the Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA), the warrant invalidation process we improved with assistance from the legislature has proven successful and we send a letter to individuals with outstanding misdemeanors because sometimes people forget. And, our warrant processing staff manages a huge volume of administrative warrant closures,” said Sheriff High.   
“It’s energizing heading into a new year because our success is based on the commitment of our people to the work we do.”

Suspect Arrested for Gun and Drug Possession #PGSO




Upper Marlboro, MD… The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/ Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Gael Die-Gueye of Hyattsville, MD on an arrest warrant for CDS (Marijuana) Possession with Intent to distribute that was obtained by Riverdale Park Police on January 6, 2015.

According to the warrant, on December 17th, Die-Gueye was driving on East West Highway where he was stopped by the police for driving with a missing headlight. The officer approached the car and smelled the strong odor of marijuana. Die-Gueye was asked to exit the vehicle; when he did so the officer saw a small amount of marijuana on the floor.  The officer searched the vehicle where he located a digital scale and a significant amount of marijuana. The warrant further states that after being read his rights, Die-Gueye gave verbal and written consent to go to his residence for his identification and told the officers where he had more marijuana and a gun. The marijuana that was confiscated had an estimated street value of over $3400.00 dollars.

Upon receiving the warrant, the deputies’ investigation determined that Die-Gueye could be located in the 3500 block of Toledo Terrace, in Hyattsville, MD.  When deputies responded to the address they spotted the suspect looking out of the back window. A female opened the door and Die-Gueye was taken into custody and transported to the Prince George’s County, MD Department of Corrections for processing.

 Die-Gueye was also charged with Firearm Drug Traffic Crime, CDS Distribution with a Firearm, CDS Possession of Marijuana, and CDS Possession of Paraphernalia.

1st Degree Assault Suspect Arrested #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/ Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Jenyuei-Asagaya, Luthur of New Carrolton, MD on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault that was obtained by New Carrolton Police on December 24, 2014.

According to the warrant, on December 23, in the 7700 block of Riverdale Road in New Carrolton, Jenyuei-Asagaya got into a verbal altercation with his twin brother over a missing cell phone that became physical. The warrant indicates that Jenyuei-Asagaya went into the kitchen where he grabbed a knife and attacked his brother causing several cuts and a laceration that required several stitches. The warrant further states that a family member intervened and took the knife from Jenyuei-Asagaya while attempting to calm him down. The police were called and Jenyuei-Asagaya fled the apartment by jumping off the balcony.  

Upon receipt of the warrant, Deputies attempted to locate Jenyuei-Asagaya at several addresses and were able to locate him at a motel in the 3500 block of Old Annapolis Road in Laurel, MD. Deputies went Jenyuei-Asagaya’s room where he was taken into custody without incident. Deputies also apprehended another individual in the room with Jenyuei-Asagaya who was wanted on a warrant for Failure to Appear (FTA) for Driving on a Suspended out of state license. Both were taken to the Prince George’s County, MD Department of Corrections for processing.

Jenyuei-Asagaya is also charged with Assault Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment, and carrying a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure.

Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/ Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Jonathan Harris of Oxon Hill, MD on an arrest warrant for Armed Robbery that was obtained by Bowie State University Campus Police on December 23, 2014.

According to the warrant on December 17th, in the 14000 block of Jericho Road in Bowie, MD, Harris and another suspect went into a dorm room and forced two individuals to turn around at gun point. While the victims were turned away the two suspects robbed them of two laptops, wallets, an IPOD Touch II, and a PlayStation 4. The suspects stuffed the items into a backpack and exited the building via a stairwell. The warrant further states that a campus police officer saw the two males matching the description of the robbery suspects. When the officer approached them the suspect carrying the backpack ran into the woods and dropped the bag.  The suspect was later identified as Harris.   
  
Upon receiving the warrant, the Deputies’ investigation determined that Harris could be located in the 1300 block of Iverson Street in Oxon Hill, MD. The deputies went to the residence and Harris was taken into custody and transported to the Prince George’s County, MD Department of Corrections for processing.

Harris was also charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery, Assault First Degree, Assault Second Degree, Firearm use in a Felonious Violent Crime, and Theft over $1,000 but under $10,000.
