On-Duty Deputies Take a Detour/Encounter Homicide Scene

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Office of the Sheriff said that two of its deputies came upon a homicide scene on Friday, December 30th at about 10:00 p.m. The deputies were on their way to serve protective orders as a part of their regular shift assignment in the Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Intervention Division (DVID).

Near White Pearl Place and Pepper Mill Drive, deputies encountered the homicide scene after taking a detour to avoid a street that was blocked by construction. As the deputies turned off the street, they heard shots and witnessed individuals jump into a car which then was driven head-on into one of the deputies’ cruisers.

Deputy Arthur Grinage, a deputy since January 2015, was not injured when his cruiser was struck, however, as he exited his cruiser, he discharged his service weapon, hitting the cruiser door. Grinage has been placed on routine administrative leave pending investigation of the firearms discharge. The deputies are cooperating in the police investigation.

The Prince George’s County Police (PGPD) is investigating the homicide. For information contact PGPD Press Information at 301-772-4710.
