Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest First Degree Assault Suspect



Upper Marlboro, MD… The Office of the Sheriff's Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Canete-Montoya, Kevin on July 3, 2019 on a First-Degree Assault warrant obtained by the Hyattsville City Police on June 19, 2019.

According to the warrant, on May 11th, police responded to the 7000 block of Adelphi road for the call of a robbery and assault in progress. Once on scene, officers learned that a victim had been transported to a nearby firehouse and to Prince George’s Hospital for medical attention. Detectives met with the victim who said that he was at his car when he was approached by six male suspects who assaulted him with closed fists and struck him in the head with a bottle several times causing several lacerations. According to the warrant, the suspects stole the victim’s coat and demanded his car keys. When they could not find the keys, they took a bat and broke out all the vehicle passenger windows. There were witnesses to the incident and the victim was familiar with the suspects and able to identify them.

Deputies located one of the suspects - Canete-Montoya - at a residence in the 4000 block of Mt. Rainier, MD. He was advised of the warrant, placed into custody, and transported to District 1 Regional Processing in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Canete-Montoya is also charged with Robbery, Con-Robbery, 2nd Degree Assault, Malicious Destruction of Property, and Theft less than 100 dollars.
