Deputies Arrest Attempted Murder Suspect/Close Five Warrants

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Sheriff’s warrant squad reported the arrest last Friday of Cynard Smith of Capitol Heights, MD, who was wanted for Attempted Murder.  Smith was wanted in connection with an incident that occurred on December 19th in Hyattsville, MD in which Smith is alleged to have beaten a female victim on or about her head and body with a hammer.

The victim, who was treated for multiple injuries, identified Smith as her attacker.

The warrant for his arrest, dated December 20, 2011, was issued at the request of Police District I detectives and included charges of Second Degree Attempted Murder, Attempted First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, and malicious destruction of property.

Smith’s arrest closes four additional open warrants for his arrest for second degree escape, violation of an exparte, and two separate warrants for telephone misuse.

The District I detective handling the case was notified of the arrest.
