Sheriff’s Deputies Support 8th Annual Santa with a Badge Program

Upper Marlboro, MD…Thirty-two Sheriff’s Deputies and Explorers joined the Santa with a Badge Program on Saturday December 3, 2011.  The Sheriff’s Office has participated in the program for 8 years along with law enforcement officers throughout Prince George’s County. The program, started in 2003 by Cpl. Michael Rudinski of the Hyattsville City Police Department, has developed partnerships with local elementary schools and organizations who give deserving children from families in need a chance to go shopping during the holiday season.

Eighty-seven children received $100 gift cards from Target and/or the Mall at Prince George’s.  Each child was accompanied by deputies and officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Maryland Park Police, Cheverly Police Department, Laurel Police Department and numerous other municipal agencies.

Chief Assistant Sheriff Darrin Palmer stated “We are glad to support such a wonderful program each year. It’s a pleasure to know so many young lives were touched.” Among the children served this year was Janiya Randall surviving daughter of slain Sheriff Explorer Wynetta Wright. “This is the first holiday season Janiya Randall will spend without her mother and sister. The Office of the Sheriff will continue our support of the Wright family.”
