‘Operation Broken Heart’ Domestic Violence Warrant Operation

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division, in collaboration with Maryland State Police (MSP) and the US Marshals Task Force conducted a warrant operation focused primarily on Domestic Violence-related warrants that resulted in the closure of 60 warrants. The operation, which began in the late hours of Tuesday night and concluded in the early morning hours Wednesday, was comprised of seven teams.

The teams attempted service at over 150 addresses in Prince George’s County, and the District of Columbia. The operation also included Transforming Neighborhood Initiative (TNI) Communities . 

“The focus of this operation was domestic violence warrants,” said Captain Mints, Assistant Bureau Chief of Field Operations. “Of the 58 arrests, 33 were for domestic violence-related crimes, a result we are certainly pleased with because the Office of the Sheriff is a committed partner in the fight against domestic violence.”

Deputies Arrest Indicted 1991 ‘Assault with Intent to Murder’ Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest on Monday February 24, 2014, of Johnnie Bazemore of Washington, DC on an indictment for Assault with Intent to Murder. The indictment was issued by the Circuit Court of Prince George's County February 21, 1991.

 

According to the indictment, on December 22, 1990, Bazemore allegedly attacked 3 male victims whom he assaulted and shot.   

The Sheriff’s Cold Case Warrant Team and US Marshal’s Task Force investigative efforts led them to believe that Bazemore was in Washington, DC. He was apprehended in the 4900 block of Minnesota Ave, Washington DC., where he was spotted entering a residence where he was taken into custody.

Deputies Extradite Two Attempted 1st Degree Murder Suspects

Upper Marlboro, MD…On February 17, 2014 Deputies of the Warrant/Fugitive Division extradited Rashad Wright and Vernon Clemmons from Georgia to Prince George’s County, MD both on Attempted First Degree Murder warrants obtained by County Police Detectives. The warrants were obtained in June 2013 and December 2013, respectively.

According to the arrest warrant for Wright, on June 22, 2013, Wright and two other males were sitting inside of a parked vehicle in the 1200 block of Elfin Avenue in Capitol Heights, MD when an argument ensued between Wright and one of the men in the car.  Wright allegedly produced a pocket knife and stabbed the victim in his neck and back when the victim attempted to exit the vehicle. Wright fled on foot prior to officers’ arrival.

Wright is also charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment.

Vernon Clemmons

The warrant for Vernon Clemmons states that on December 6, 2013 Clemons is alleged to have shot at a vehicle that was occupied by three females in the 7600 block of Marlboro Pike in Forestville, MD. The warrant further indicates that the attack may have stemmed from an argument between Clemmons and one of the female victims.

Clemmons is facing additional charges of Attempted First Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Firearm Use during a Felonious Violent Crime.

Wright and Clemmons were transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections where both are being held on a “No Bond” status.

Sheriff Deputies Arrest Attempted Murder Suspect

The Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest on Monday February 10, 2014, of Kevin “Keo” Wallace of Temple Hills, MD on an arrest warrant for Attempt 1^st Degree Murder. The warrant was obtained by the County Police Department on February 6, 2014.

According to the warrant, on February 4^th 2014, Wallace allegedly robbed a male victim by stabbing him with a knife outside an apartment in the 3600 block of Maywood Lane in Temple Hills, MD. The warrant further states that the attack may have stemmed from an argument between Wallace and the victim that took place earlier in a card game.  Wallace is alleged to have stabbed the victim multiple times.   

The Sheriff Warrant/ Fugitive Division determined that Wallace was located in the 1600 block of Maywood Lane in Temple Hills, MD., where he was taken into custody and transported to the Prince George's County Detention Center. Wallace was also charged with Assault-First Degree, Armed Robbery, and Dangerous Weapon.

“In Remembrance of Lives Lost to Domestic Violence in Maryland”

Upper Marlboro, MD… Members of the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Intervention Division (DVID) joined Governor Martin O’Malley and Lt. Governor Anthony Brown at the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence (MDNAVD) 26^th Annual Memorial Service Monday night in Annapolis.

In a moving and solemn ceremony, members of the Sheriff’s Domestic Violence Intervention Division stood with Governor O’Malley and Lt. Governor Brown and citizens and family members of those lost. They each held a candle to symbolize each life, as they stood against the backdrop of a heart that contained the names of each of the victims.

 “Any life lost is one too many,” said Michaele Cohen, Executive Director of the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence (MNADV). “But, we celebrate the survivors and focus attention on changing laws to reduce domestic violence, improve victim safety and providing greater abuser accountability.”

During the Service a survivor of domestic violence spoke about her experiences escaping a violent relationship. She thanked the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Assistants for their help - accompanying her during court processes and assisting her with her transition to the House of Ruth.

“Each year when I attend this beautiful memorial, it reminds me of why I do this work and helps me to keep focus,” said Barbara Harvard, a Domestic Violence SVA in the Sheriff’s Office.

Lieutenant Colonel Regina Taylor, Bureau Chief of Field Operations said “The Maryland Network’s Candlelight Vigil is a sad tribute to the victims of Domestic Violence, but I am heartened by the attendance of the Governor and Lt. Governor, and other state officials and legislators who continue to strengthen laws that provide protection, safety, and hope to victims.

Sheriff Deputies Arrest 1988 Robbery Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest on Monday February 10, 2014, of Ronald Jefferies of Capitol Heights, MD on an arrest warrant for Robbery with a Deadly Weapon. The warrant was obtained by the County Police Department on July 8, 1988.

According to the warrant, on July 1, 1988, Jefferies allegedly attacked a male victim with a deadly weapon in an apartment in the 6200 block of 64^th Street in Riverdale Park, MD. After striking the victim with a blunt object to the head, the victim was tied-up and stabbed in the back. The warrant further states that Jefferies took several hundred dollars from the victim, along with his ATM card. The warrant also states that the victim was able to escape and identified Jeffries as his attacker.   

The Sheriff’s Cold Case Warrant Team’s investigative efforts led them to believe that Jefferies was in Capitol Heights, MD. He was apprehended in the 6200 block of Walker Mill Road Capitol Heights, MD., where he was taken into custody and transported to the Prince George's County Detention Center.

Robbery Suspect Arrested

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Markel Dinkins of Hyattsville, MD on last Wednesday, on an arrest warrant for Robbery, which was obtained by Riverdale Park Police Department on January 8, 2014.

According to the warrant, on December 12, 2013, Dinkins allegedly exited a 2005 Silver Chevy Impala and attacked a male victim from behind in the area of Taylor Road and Tuckerman Street in Riverdale Park, MD. After taking the victim’s briefcase and laptop, Dinkins fled on foot. The warrant further states that on December 21, 2013 a vehicle matching the description of the Impala, was stopped and one of its occupants was identified as Markel Dinkins.

The Warrant/ Fugitive Division’s investigation determined that Dinkins was located in Washington, DC. With assistance from the Metropolitan Police Department he was apprehended in the 2300 block of Ainger Place Washington DC., where he was taken into custody. Dinkins was also charged with Assault Second Degree, and two counts of Conspiracy Robbery.
