Prince George's County Sheriff's Deputies Honored at 38th Annual Valor Awards #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD…Sheriff Melvin C. High and the heads of all of the county’s public safety agencies, joined County Executive Rushern L. Baker at Martin’s Crosswinds in Greenbelt MD, to celebrate the 38^th Annual Public Safety Valor Awards. The Valor Awards Luncheon is a program that recognizes members from each agency for exceptional performance and bravery in service.

The Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office had eight deputies awarded the Bronze Medal of Valor for their brave actions in the line of duty in two separate incidents.

Sergeant Lisa Smith, Corporal Dale Dreibelbis, Corporal Kenyatta Porter, Corporal Nadia Lockhart (Not pictured), Deputy First Class Adrian Curtis, and Private Terrence Mordecai, were at a residence in Hyattsville MD, to serve a court ordered Emergency Petition Service. The man’s mother stated that he had not been taking his medication and had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. The deputies went down into a dark basement where they were faced with a dangerous subject that was holding two large kitchen knives. The man refused to comply with the deputies’ verbal commands and began fighting them. The deputies were able to subdue the combative man after a brief struggle and placed him in custody. The man was transported to the hospital for the psychiatric evaluation that his family had requested.  

Lt. Monica Jackson and Corporal Terena McCreary were attempting to serve a court ordered eviction in Glen Dale MD. The deputies met the resident at the door and when they showed him the court order, the man locked the door and refused to let them in. The man stated “I have weapons in here! I’m not leaving this house alive; I have weapons!”  Shortly after that the deputies heard what sounded like several gunshots. As they ran for cover, they could see flames and smoke coming from the house. Deputies continued to negotiate with the resident who finally agreed to come out of the house; he was then taken into custody and transported to the hospital for an Emergency Psychiatric Evaluation.

Thanks to the heroic actions of these deputies who risked injury to themselves in order to prevent these men from harming themselves or others we proudly recognize our Deputies with the Bronze Medal of Valor.

Deputies Arrest Two Suspects on Felony Indictments #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Sheriff’s Office Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the following felony arrests:

 Felony Indictment Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Danalee Gibbons on an indictment alleging Robbery with a Deadly Weapon. The indictment was issued by the Circuit Court of Prince George's County on April 2, 2015.

Upon receiving the indictment, Warrant Division Fugitive Apprehension & Surveillance Team (FAST) Deputies began an investigation into Gibbons whereabouts. FAST Deputies located and arrested Gibbons on April 17, 2015, in the 7000 block of Burnside Road in Landover, MD.

Gibbons is also charged with Robbery, Second and Fourth Degree Burglary, Theft of property or services with a value more than $1,000 less than $10,000, and Second Degree Assault.

                                                    Felony Indictment Suspect Arrested

The Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division also reported the arrest of Toni Smith on an indictment alleging Robbery with a Deadly Weapon. The indictment was issued by the Circuit Court of Prince George's County on April 2, 2015.

Upon receiving the indictment, (FAST) Deputies began an investigation into Smith whereabouts. FAST Deputies located and arrested Smith on April 17, 2015, in the 6000 block of Flagstaff Street in Hyattsville, MD.

Smith is also charged with Robbery, Second Degree Assault, Theft of property or services with a value of less than $1,000, and Dangerous Weapon Openly with Intent to Injure.

Both Suspects were transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.

Warrant/Fugitive Division Felony Arrest Report #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Sheriff’s Office Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the following felony arrests:


First Degree Assault Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Antonie Rouse of Bowie, MD, who was wanted on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault obtained by the County Police on January 18, 2015.

According to the warrant, on January 17th, in the 4000 block of Bunker Hill Road, Cottage City, MD, Rouse and another male were engaged in an argument that turned physical. During the altercation, Rouse produced a knife and struck the victim, multiple times in the back and forehead, and then fled the scene.

On April 9^th, Sheriff’s deputies made numerous attempts to locate Rouse at his residence in the 15000 block of Pointer Ridge Drive, Bowie, MD, and left their contact information. On April 13^th, Rouse called the Sheriff’s Office and after speaking with deputies, turned himself in at the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.

Rouse is also charged with Second Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment.

        Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Hector Chavez-Morales of Clinton, MD, who was wanted on an arrest warrant for Armed Robbery that was obtained by County Police on April 13, 2015.

According to the warrant, on November 29, 2014, Chavez-Morales and another male arranged a meeting on Facebook over a purchase of Nike shoes. During the transaction, Chavez-Morales and another suspect approached the victim and struck him in the back of the head. The warrant states that Chavez-Morales then snatched the shoes – valued at $250.00- from the victim and fled the scene.

Upon receipt of the warrant, on April 16, 2015, deputies’ investigation determined that Chavez-Morales could be located in the 6800 block of Killarney Street in Clinton, MD. The deputies went to the residence where Chavez-Morales was located and taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the District IV Police Station.    

Chavez-Morales is also charged with Robbery, First and Second Degree Assault and Theft less than $1,000.

Warrant/Fugitive Division Felony Arrest Report #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Sheriff’s Office Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the following felony arrests:

 

 

 First Degree Burglary Suspect Arrested

    

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested John Quarles of Temple Hills, MD who was wanted on an arrest warrant for First Degree Burglary obtained by County Police on March 11^th, 2015.

According to the warrant, on February 25th, Quarles was in the 6300 block of Den Lee Drive in Clinton, MD, where he was observed running from a house and stealing a 2005 Cadillac Escalade SUV. The owner of the SUV stated that he had an iPad along with several tools inside the vehicle valued at over $4,000. The warrant states that Quarles used the stolen iPad to take pictures and Quarles was identified by photos that uploaded to the victim’s cloud storage.

Prince George’s County deputies located Quarles through a personal contact through who arranged for Quarles to turn himself in. He was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections (DOC) for processing.

Quarles is also charged with Malicious Destruction of Property, Theft 10,000 to under 100,000 and Unlawful taking of a Motor Vehicle.

First Degree Burglary Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Kenneth Reese of Landover, MD on a warrant for First Degree Burglary that was issued by the City of Bowie Police Department on April 4^th, 2015.  

The warrant states that on April 3^rd Reese was in the 15000 block of Nivelle Court in Bowie, MD, where he kicked open a door, burglarized a residence, then ran out and left in his vehicle. The home owner who was known to Reese and inside the residence at the time Reese entered was not harmed.

Deputies had begun their investigation when they received a call from Reese, after which he agreed to turn himself in. He was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections (DOC) for processing.

Reese is also charged with Burglary Fourth Degree and Theft 1,000 to 10,000.

Warrant/Fugitive Division Felony Arrest Report #PGSO

First Degree Assault Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Garrett Bailey of Bowie, MD, who was wanted on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault that was obtained by the Bowie City Police Department on March 26, 2015.

According to the warrant, on March 23, in the 15000 block of Collington Road in Bowie, MD, Bailey approached a male acquaintance while in his vehicle, allegedly waved a handgun, cocked it and pointed it at him, then drove off. According to the warrant, Bailey had pervious issues with the victim involving a female associate.

Upon receipt of the warrant, on April 8^th, Warrant Division Fugitive Apprehension & Surveillance Team (FAST) deputies’ investigation determined that Bailey could be located at an address in the 4000 block of Wakefield Lane in Bowie, MD. They were granted access to the residence where they spotted the suspect in the backyard club house.  Bailey was taken into custody and transported to Bowie City Police Station.

                                                         First Degree Assault Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Nehemias Hernandez of Hyattsville, MD, on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault that was obtained by County Police on April 7, 2015.

According to the warrant, on April 7, 2015, Hernandez and his pregnant girlfriend were engaged in an argument that turned physical at a residence located in the 500 block of Chillum Road in Hyattsville, MD. During the altercation, Hernandez allegedly pushed her to the ground, struck her in the face, kneed her in the stomach and strangled her. The warrant states that Hernandez threw cologne on the victim and threatened to kill her if she called the police. Hernandez fled the scene.

Upon receiving the warrant, on April 9^th, Deputies canvassed the area of the incident; Hernandez was found in a nearby apartment building. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the District I Police Station.

Hernandez is also charged with Second Degree Assault.
