Deputies Arrest Attempted First Degree Murder Suspect

 Upper Marlboro, MD… The Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Larique Elijah Leach on June 8, 2022, on a warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder obtained by the Greenbelt City Police Department on May 30, 2022. 

 According to the warrant, on May 23, 2022, officers with the Greenbelt City Police Department responded to the 8000 block of Mandan Road in Greenbelt, MD., for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, police discovered a victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Police learned that Leach had allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim before shooting them and taking their personal property. Leach fled the scene before police arrived. The victim was taken to a local hospital where they were treated for injuries. Through their investigation, Detectives were able to identify Leach as the shooter. 

 On June 8, 2022, deputies determined that Leach could be located at an address in the 15700 block of Haynes Road, in Laurel, MD. Upon arrival, deputies knocked, and a resident answered allowing them to enter the home. Once inside, Leach was identified in the home, where he was served the warrant, placed into custody, and safely transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections without incident. Greenbelt City Police Detectives were notified. Leach is also charged with Armed Carjacking, Attempted Second-Degree Murder, First-Degree Assault, Second-Degree Assault, Firearm Use/Felony-Violence Crime, Armed Robbery, Robbery, Handgun on Person, Loaded Handgun on Person, and Theft Less Than $100.

Deputies Arrest First Degree Assault Suspect

 

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Devonte Jermaine Brooks, on June 9, 2022, on a warrant for First Degree Assault obtained by county police on May 15, 2022.

According to the warrant, on May 15, 2022, police responded to the 6100 block of Surrey Square Lane in District Heights, MD, for a domestic-related shooting. Upon arrival, the police discovered a victim suffering from a gunshot wound in an apartment. Police learned that the victim had a verbal dispute with Brooks, and he became upset and started to strangle the victim. The victim was able to break free and Brooks allegedly pulled out a weapon and shot the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries. Through their investigation, detectives were able to identify Brooks as the shooter.

On June 9, 2022, deputies determined that Brooks could be located at an address in the 6100 block of Surrey Square Lane in District Heights, MD.  Upon arrival deputies were able to identify Brooks, he was then served with the warrant, placed into custody, and safely transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections without incident. Prince George’s County Police Detectives were notified.

Brooks is also charged with Assault Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Firearm Use/Felony-Violence Crime, Loaded Handgun on Person, and Handgun on Person.

Media Advisory Alert: Sheriff Impersonator Phone Scam #PGSO

The Office of the Sheriff received information about a scam alert from the following number (301) 245-6421. This number leads to a voicemail where the individual is claiming to be "Sergeant Johnson from the Prince George's County Sheriff Department". Do not give out personal information such as social security number, name, and date of birth to confirm anything.

The Sheriff’s Office asks citizens and residents to rebuff these callers, just as the citizens who reported these callers did. Please call us with the phone numbers provided by the scammers. We cannot express enough - There are no circumstances under which the Sheriff or any other law enforcement agency asks citizens to wire money or send money on a pre-paid card. These calls are from crooks and predators.

If you ever receive a call from someone claiming to be a member of the Sheriff’s Office and feel that the call is suspicious, remember (NEVER GIVE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION) and always ask for a name and identification number. All Deputies are required to provide such information to the citizens we serve. Never hesitate to call our agency to verify a call you have received.
