“Domestic
Violence Has No Place in Our Community”
Sheriff
Continues October Events After Launch of “Purple Light Nights”
Upper Marlboro, MD… The Prince George’s County Office of the
Sheriff Domestic Violence Intervention Division (DVID) said it will continue its
schedule of events in October to raise awareness about domestic violence by
sharing information with citizens and residents at events around the county.
“The successful launch of “Purple Light Nights” in Maryland on October 9th and our Roundtable and Luncheon at the end of the month are the starting and closing event centerpieces of our activities for the month,” said Lt. Colonel Regina Taylor, Bureau Chief of Field Operations. “We hosted two information exchanges in the community before the launch and we have another one today. For the remainder of the month we are participating in events with some of our partners and hosting a roundtable discussion and luncheon on October 30th.
The “Purple Light
Nights” lighting ceremony was held on the walkway behind the County
Administration building where the county building and light poles were adorned
with purple lights. Those attending the ceremony were given a purple light bulb
for their window or porch to symbolize a unified voice in the county against
domestic violence. “In the coming years,
we hope thousands of households in Prince George’s County and all over the
state will use the purple porch light in October as a unified voice,” said
Sheriff High.
