DVID Deputy Rescues Two Individuals from Overturned SUV

Deputy First Class (DFC) Mayberry of the Domestic Violence Intervention Division (DVID) aided two individuals on Saturday who were trapped inside an overturned SUV at the intersection of Ritchie Road and Walker Mill Road in Capitol Heights, MD.

First to arrive on the scene, DFC Mayberry requested that the dispatcher send Fire and Emergency Services along with additional deputies to his location. DFC Mayberry realized that the people inside the SUV were unable to get out since the vehicle was overturned and resting on its roof. Mayberry used his baton to break the window and with the help of a citizen was able to rescue both victims.

DVID Squad 50 members: Sergeant Connley, Corporal Porter, Corporal Dedier, Deputy Macklin, Deputy B. Williams, and (off duty) Deputy Corporal Kennedy-Nichols along with county police all responded to the scene and assisted the individuals involved and provided traffic control.

“Thanks to fast thinking and quick action on the part of DFC Mayberry and the citizen, two lives were saved today,” said Sgt. Connley.
