Upper Marlboro, MD… The Office of the Sheriff Child Support Enforcement Unit (CSEU) conducted a warrant operation focused primarily on apprehending suspects wanted for Child Support related warrants. The two day operation took place during the late evening and early morning hours of September 10th through September 11th and resulted in 24 arrests, representing child support arrears of over $287,000.
Sheriff’s deputies attempted to serve 72 warrants during the sweep with three teams of 4 deputies on the street with an additional team available to handle paperwork. The Child Support Sweep was comprised of CSEU deputies, as well as deputies from The Warrant/ Fugitive Division, Planning, Research & Development Division, and the District Court Division with support from clerical staff.
“With deputy support from other divisions to augment our teams, our two-day Back to School Warrant Sweep was a success. We were especially pleased to arrest a defendant with arrearages of over $40,200.00 and another who has avoided this process since 2003, said Captain Sharon Saunders, Civil Divisions Assistant Chief, Bureau of Field Operations." This is the core of our partnership with the State Office of Child Support Enforcement, to bring these individuals before the court and to facilitate the collection of dollars that provide for the care of children in the care of custodial parents, she said.
Captain Saunders went on to say that the success of the operation was possible because of the careful planning and execution by the teams and those who supported them.
