Upper Marlboro, MD…The
Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Child Support Enforcement Division (CSED) and
Calvert County Sheriff Deputies conducted an overnight child support warrant
sweep on October 8th . The sweep is the 13th joint
operation conducted by the two counties and resulted in the arrest of 18
individuals whose unpaid child support arrearages totaled over $205,000.
Forty-seven
deputies, including Prince George’s Sheriff’s deputies from the Domestic
Violence Intervention Division (DVID), Civil/Landlord and Tenant Division, and
the Warrant and Fugitive Division, comprised five teams designed to locate
individuals with outstanding child support warrants. The teams began the
operation with 78 writs – 57 from Prince George’s County and 21 from Calvert
County. Throughout the night, deputies attempted to serve writs in Prince
George’s County, Charles County, Howard County, and Montgomery County.
Saunders
went on to say that the importance of the arrests in the child support
enforcement process is that they enable the custodial parent to begin the
process of collecting money that is crucial to the care of children in both counties
– costs that might otherwise be borne by taxpayers.
