NAIFA/Sheriff “Teddy Bear” Partnership Continues #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD… Chief Assistant Sheriff Darrin Palmer accepted over 400 teddy bears from the Prince George’s County chapter of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), at a breakfast meeting yesterday at The County Club at Woodmore in Mitchellville, MD. The Sheriff’s Office uses the teddy bears to help comfort small children that sheriff’s deputies come into contact with while responding to domestic violence calls for service.


“We are so grateful to NAIFA and to Gary Beall whose enthusiasm for this project is awe-inspiring,” said Chief Assistant Sheriff Darrin Palmer, who has maintained a partnership with NAIFA over the last fifteen years. “These teddy bears help to provide some comfort to children during an otherwise chaotic situation; to calm and put a smile on a child’s face in these difficult circumstances makes our job easier.”

“Our members continue to enjoy the teddy bear partnership with the Sheriff because we can all imagine a child’s distress in the face of violence,” said Tom Robusto, President of the Prince George’s County NAIFA chapter. Mr. Robusto reaffirmed NAIFA’s commitment to the teddy bear partnership, and thanked its members for keeping the drive going again this year.

Warrant/Fugitive Division Felony Arrest Report #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Sheriff’s Office Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the following felony arrests:

Attempted First Degree Murder Suspect Extradited

Sheriff’s deputies extradited Theodore Brown to Prince George’s County, MD on November 4th from the Prince William County Detention Center located in Manassas, Virginia. Brown, who is from Clinton, Maryland, was wanted on an arrest warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder issued by the District court of Prince George's County on October 21, 2015.

According to the warrant, on October 21, in the 9000 block of East Hampton Drive in Capitol Heights, Md., Brown approached a couple while sitting in a parking lot. Upon arrival, Brown is alleged to have pointed a handgun at the victim and fired, striking one of the victims’ in the neck, after which he fled the scene.
The warrant indicates that one of the victims was known to Brown.

Brown is also charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder (2x), First and Second Degree Assault (2x), and Firearm Use/Felony Violent Crime.

   

First Degree Burglary Suspect Arrested

 

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jacob Jackson of Upper Marlboro, MD who was wanted on an arrest warrant for First Degree Burglary obtained by County Police on August 27, 2015. According to the warrant, on July 24th, Jackson was in the 4000 block of Natahala Drive in Temple Hills, MD, where he allegedly broke into a victim’s house by kicking in the basement door. Multiple items were reported stolen from the house including several items of electronics and numerous pieces of jewelry valued at approximately $7,000.

Deputies’ made several attempts to locate Jackson; on November 4th, Sheriff’s deputies located Jackson in the 8000 block of Greenbelt Road in Greenbelt, MD. Jackson answered the door, cooperated and was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections (DOC) for processing.

Jackson is also charged Theft 1,000 to under 10,000.

GOCCP Grant Funds Support PGSO Violent Offender Warrant Operation (395 Arrests Close 495 Warrants) #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD…the Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division completed the first phase of a warrant operation focused on getting violent offenders off county streets, which resulted in 395 arrests to close 495 warrants. The multi-week, county wide operation was funded with a grant from the Governor’s Office on Crime Control and Prevention (GOCCP).

This phase of the grant-funded initiative, covering the period July 1 thru September 30^th, was designed specifically to focus on open warrants associated with the most violent offenders. “These additional resources are a boost to the top priority of our overall warrant strategy,” said Sheriff High. “Violent offenders represent the greatest and most immediate danger to county citizens and residents.” Sheriff High also said that GOCCP funding enables the agency to keep the operation going.

 

The violent offender arrests were significant. Of 128 felony arrests four were for attempted murder and 23 were for gun-related charges, with one gun seized during arrest of a suspect.  Additional arrests included 49 First Degree Assaults, 38 Robberies; 10 Sex Offenses; 3 Rapes; and 20 Burglaries. Four Carjacking arrest were also made.  

“We focused these resources on criminals who use deadly weapons in the commission of a crime,” said Captain Randall Cooper, Assistant Bureau Chief of Criminal Operations. “Our contribution to crime reduction is reducing violent offender crime by investigating the whereabouts of and arresting violent offenders; the support from GOCCP is a tremendous help to this effort.” 

Warrant/Fugitive Division Felony Arrest Report #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Sheriff’s Office Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the following felony arrests:

 Attempted First Degree Murder Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Karongan Sacko of Hyattsville, MD who was wanted on an arrest warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder obtained by the Hyattsville Police department on October 15, 2015.

The warrant states that on October 14^th, Sacko was in the 4200 block of Kennedy Street in Hyattsville, MD, where he is alleged to have knocked on a door and told the victim who answered to exit the house. The warrant further states that Sacko pointed a handgun at the victim and threatened to kill him but the victim ran back into the house and called the police, and Sacko left before police arrived.

  On October 19^th Sheriff’s deputies knocked on the door of Sacko’s residence on Belcrest road where they were allowed entry by a relative. Sacko was located inside the residence and taken into custody without incident; he was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections. 

Sacko is also charged with Assault First Degree and Assault Second Degree.

Attempted First Degree Murder Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Donte Casson of Landover, MD who was wanted on an arrest warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder obtained by the County Police department on October 24, 2015.

According to the warrant Casson and another male are alledged to have approached a group of people walking thru the woods near the 7600 block of Allendale Circle in Landover. The warrant futher states that Casson became involved in an argument with one group member when he pulled out and pointed a handgun at them, and that Casson fired a shot at the group that struck one person as they began to run. The warrant further states that Casson fled the scene in an unknown direction and the victim was transported to hospital with injuries.

On October 28^th Sheriff deputies went to Capitol Heights and knocked on the door of a known friend of Casson’s. The owner of the residence opened the door and was asked if Casson was there. The suspect  came down the stairs and was placed into custody without incident.  He was transported to County Police District III Detectives.

Casson is also charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, Assualt First Degree, Firearm use in a Felonious Violent Crime, Assault Second Degree, Reckless Endangerment, and Handgun on Person.
