Sheriff High Hosts 4th “Purple Light Nights®” Lighting Ceremony
(Domestic Violence Awareness Month Begins With Unity)

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Office of the Sheriff will host the Fourth Purple Light Nights Lighting Ceremony, an event the Sheriff’s Office launched in 2014 to begin Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

“Purple Light Nights®” is a community event bringing citizens together with professional service-provider partners who do the important work of serving victims and raising awareness about domestic violence. The campaign partners include county, municipal, law enforcement, private and civic organizations. Many will continue to bathe their headquarters in purple light every night in October, including the County Administration Building, County Police, Bowie Police, Riverdale Park Police, Prince George’s Hospital Center, Prince George’s Community College and the M-NCPPC Headquarters. The Prince George’s County Public Schools Board of Education Building will also be lit this year.

The County’s Department of Family Services – a Purple Light Nights® partner – continues the partnership with the Capital Wheel at National Harbor which will light the Capital Wheel purple on October 2nd, 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th.

Through the generosity of the Purple Light Nights® Presenting Sponsor Pepco, free purple light bulbs will be distributed to citizens. Of the awareness campaign, Sheriff High said, “We want county residents to know that there is an amazing range of services available in our county to help families affected by domestic violence. When citizens shine a light on their porch or in their window every night in October, they signal our county’s unity in the fight against domestic violence.”

Upper Marlboro, MD… El Departamento del Sheriff del Condado de Prince George esta programado para una evalucion en nuestras instalaciones centrales, este es el proximo paso de nuestra agencia para obtener la acreditacion de la Comission (CALEA) que acredita las Agencias de origen Policiaco.Esta primera fase evalua el nivel professional con que las oficinas del Departamento del Sheriff cumple con las normas de: “las mejores practicas de normas y reglas”con las que estan llamadas a cumplir todas las agencias de orden public.

 Esta evaluacion es administrada por la Comision en Acreditaciones para las Agencias Policiacas, Inc. (CALEA) cuya funcion es evaluar como la agencia cumple con las normas de tecnicas en cuatro areas basicas: Politica y Procedimientos, Administracion, Operaciones, y Servicios de Apoyo.

Como parte de la evaluacion local, los empleados y miembros de la comunidad estan invitados a ofrecer sus comentarios y opiniones en una seccion publica informativa que se efectuara el dia Martes, 3 de Octubre, 2017 a las 6:00 de la tarde. Esta seccion se efectuara en las instalaciones del Edificio Administrativo del Condado de Prince George(CAB), ubicado en la 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20772.

Invitamos a nuestros empleados y publico en general para ofrecer sus comentarios llamando al telefono (301)780-2576 el Martes, 3 de Octubre, entre los horarios de la 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Sus comentarios seran tomados por el mismo equipo de personas que estaran conduciendo las evaluaciones.

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff is scheduled for an on-site assessment, the next phase in the agency’s goal to achieve accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The on-site assessment phase is undertaken to verify the Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff’s compliance with professional “best practice” law enforcement standards.

The assessment is administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) which assesses agency compliance with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at a public information session on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. The session will be conducted in the Prince George's County Administration Building located at 14741 Governor Oden Bowie Drive Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20772.

Agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling (301)780-2576 on Tuesday, October 3rd, between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Comments will be taken by the Assessment team.

Comments by telephone or during the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. Warrant/Fugitive Division Felony Arrest Report #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Sheriff’s Office Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the following felony arrests:

First Degree Arson Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Zoe Artis of Bowie, MD on an arrest warrant for First Degree Arson that was obtained by County police on August 31th, 2017.

The warrant states that on August 30, 2017, Fire Department Units responded to a house fire in the 900 block of Jackson Valley Court in Bowie, MD. Once on scene, fire personnel extinguished the fire on the exterior wooden deck of the home. Artis is alleged to have set the fire with gasoline. According to the warrant, a Certified Fire Investigator determined that the cause of the fire was arson.

On September 6 2017, deputies located Artis in the 10 Block of Gentry Lane in Capitol Heights Md. where she was placed into custody. Artis was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections without incident.

Artis is also charged with Malicious Dest. Property Value of 1000.00 and Malicious Burning Burglary

First Degree Suspect Arrested

Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Milton Argueta-Garcia of Hyattsville MD., on an arrest warrant for Burglary First Degree that was obtained by County Police by August 29, 2017.

According to the warrant, on August 29th, Argueta-Garcia and another suspect were alleged to have entered a storehouse in the 7000 block of Barton Road in Hyattsville Md. Argueta-Garcia entered the building without permission where he allegedly stole three security cameras. Both suspects then fled the scene.

On August 31, 2017 Deputies’ investigation revealed that Argueta-Garcia was at Prince George’s County Hospital Center. Deputies responded, took him into custody after which Argueta-Garcia was turned over to the County Department of Corrections which assumed custody until he was released from the hospital.

Argueta-Garcia is also charged with Burglary Third and Fourth Degree, Theft $1000 to $10,000, and False Statement to Officer.
