Update – ‘Operation Broken Heart’ Warrant Sweep 22 Additional Warrants Closed/ Brings Closure Totals From 68 to 90 #PGSO

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported closure of an additional 22 warrants resulting from April’s warrant operation dubbed “Operation Broken Heart”, raising the total warrant closures to 90, up from 68.

According to Captain Paul Washington, Deputy Bureau Chief of Field Operations, there is often a residual result because deputies and officers on the teams leave information at residences and some warrants are being attempted by partners in other jurisdictions.

“The additional closures demonstrate how valuable the warrant operations are as well as the multi-jurisdictional partnerships,” said Captain Washington. “Seven outstanding warrants were closed because the person turned themselves in to resolve the outstanding matter – reminding us that sometimes persons are unaware of the warrant.” Washington said another five warrants were served by law enforcement partners outside of Prince George’s County, and one was served by county police – of which all but one was for a misdemeanor charge. The remaining 9 warrants were closed administratively.

Over 70 law enforcement officers participated in the ‘Operation Broken Heart’ operation, including Maryland State Police, Maryland National Capital Park Police, Prince George’s County Police Department, Hyattsville Police Department, Glenarden Police Department, Bladensburg Police Department, Capitol Heights Police Department and Greenbelt Police.
