Deputies Arrest First Degree Assault Suspect


Upper Marlboro, MD… The Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Terry Portsmouth on May 6, 2020, on a warrant for First Degree Assault obtained by the county police on May 2, 2020.

According to the warrant, on May 2, 2020, police were called to the 3300 Block of Melwood Road in Upper Marlboro, MD, for a reported assault. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim allowed a family member to move into her home. The family member arrived accompanied by Portsmouth, who the victim did not want in her home. When the victim told Portsmouth that he was not welcome, Portsmouth Began to assault the victim, knocking her to the ground from behind. Once the victim was on the ground, Portsmouth struck her repeatedly, causing serious bodily injury. The victim’s family member intervened to stop the assault, after which Portsmouth fled the scene.

On May 6, deputies’ investigation led them to an address in the 5700 Block of 66th Avenue in Riverdale, MD, where they knocked on the door that was answered by Portsmouth; he allowed deputies to enter the home peacefully. Portsmouth was served the warrant, placed into custody, and safely transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro MD without incident.

Portsmouth is also charged with Second Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment.
