Deputies Arrested Attempted First-Degree Murder Suspect


Upper Marlboro, MDThe Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Jamar Dwight Johnson, on July 20, 2022, on a warrant for Attempted First-Degree Murder obtained by county police on July 17, 2022.

According to the warrant, on July 10, 2022, police responded to the 1100 block of Kayak Ave., Capitol Heights, MD, for a contact shooting and cutting. Police learned that Johnson, accompanied by an unknown suspect, got into an argument that turned into a physical altercation. Johnson and an unknown suspect were alleged to have fired a gun and stabbed the victim several times. Both fled the scene in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Through their investigation, detectives identified Johnson as one of the suspects.       

On July 20, 2022, deputies determined that Johnson was located at an address in the 9300 block of 4th Street in Lanham, MD.  Upon arrival, deputies knocked and were permitted into the home where they were able to identify Johnson in the basement. He was then served with the warrant and placed into custody. Johnson was safely transported to detectives at the Prince George’s County Police Department, District 8 without incident.   

Johnson is also charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, Assault First-Degree, Assault Second-Degree, Reckless Endangerment, Handgun in Vehicle, Loaded Handgun in Vehicle, and Dangerous Weapon-Intent/Injury.
