Deputies Arrest Attempted First Degree Murder Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Office of the Sheriff's Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Derrick James Bass on April 9, 2020, on a warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder obtained by the county police on March 19, 2020.
 
According to the warrant, on March 15, 2020, police were called to the 7400 Block of Old Alexandria Road in Clinton, MD, for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim was moving property from a storage unit when Bass, accompanied by 3 other suspects, arrived demanding that the victim leave. A physical altercation occurred during which Bass and the other suspects assaulted the victim, fleeing the scene after one of the other suspects is alleged to have shot the victim with a handgun. Police learned that Bass returned to the scene, brandishing a Shotgun and threatened to kill the victim who was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Police detectives' investigation led to the identification of Bass as one of the suspects.  
 
On April 9, 2020, an investigation by deputies assigned to the United States Marshal Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force (CARFTF) led them to the federal probation office in Manassas, VA. Upon arrival, deputies identified Bass, served him the warrant, placed him into custody, and safely transported him to the Prince William County Department of Corrections in VA without incident.  
 
Bass is also Charged with Conspiracy-Attempted First-Degree Murder, First Degree Assault, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime, and Second-Degree Assault.
