Deputies Arrest Carjacking Suspect

 

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Office of the Sheriff's Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Shirley Rose McCarthy on March 22, 2021, on a warrant for Carjacking obtained by county police on March 3, 2021.

According to the warrant, on February 21st, Police responded to Pennsylvania Ave and Presidential Pkwy in Upper Marlboro for a reported carjacking. Police learned that a victim, while waiting at the traffic light, was approached by McCarthy. The victim disclosed that McCarthy entered the vehicle on the passenger side, offering money for a ride. When the victim refused, McCarthy began to push the victim several times before reaching into her waistband, implying that she had a weapon. In fear, the victim complied with her demands and got out of the car. McCarthy fled the scene making good on her escape. Detectives were able to identify McCarthy as the suspect through their investigation.

On March 22nd, deputies spoke with McCarthy by phone, notified her of the warrant, and convinced her to turn herself in. Deputies coordinated a location to meet with her, where she was served the warrant, placed into custody, and safely transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections without incident.

McCarthy is also charged with Robbery, Second Degree Assault, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Unauthorized Removal of a Motor Vehicle.
