15 Child Support Warrants Closed after Mini Sweep

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff’s Child Support Enforcement Division conducted an overnight warrant sweep on August 6th.

The sweep was comprised of three teams of Deputies who made 60 attempts to locate individuals with outstanding child support warrants. The operation resulted in 14 arrests to close 15 warrants, which represented child support arrearages of over $227,000.00.

According to Lieutenant Joyce Bowers, Commander of the Child Support Enforcement Division the mini sweep’s success was made possible because of the assistance received from Deputies of the Domestic Violence Intervention Division, Civil/ Landlord & Tenant Division and Warrants and Fugitive Division.

 “Child Support payments are enormously important for the custodial parent to assure the care and wellbeing of children; nothing is more important.” said Lieutenant Bowers. “We couldn’t have been more pleased about the arrest of a defendant with arrearages of over $99,000.00 due in child support. This capture allows the custodial parent to begin the process of collecting monies to support the children involved.”

Sheriff Deputies Arrest Robbery Suspect


Upper Marlboro, MD… The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Adelo Rojas of Cheverly, MD on July 24, 2014 on an arrest warrant for Robbery that was obtained by County Police on July 21, 2014.

According to the warrant, Rojas and a co-defendant are alleged to have robbed two male victims in the 9300 block of Wyatt Dr. in Lanham, MD. The warrant further states that during the robbery Rojas took a pair of shoes, a cell phone and money from one of the victims, valued at $1,050.00. The two are also alleged to have punched and kicked both victims. Rojas’s co-defendant was arrested earlier by county police.  

Deputies’ investigation led them to believe Rojas was at a residence in the 11000 block of Old Baltimore Pike in Beltsville, MD. On July 22, 2014, Deputies took Rojas into custody without incident at the aforementioned address. He was taken to the Prince George's County Police District II’s Robbery Suppression Team.

He was also charged with Theft $1,000.00 to under $10,000.00, and two counts of Second Degree Assault.

Deputies Arrest Assault Suspect


Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Amani Barard of Accokeek, MD last week on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault which was obtained by the Prince George's County Police on July 18, 2014.
                                                                                               
According to the warrant, on June 17, 2014 Barard was allegedly riding in a vehicle in the area of Allentown Road and Payne Drive in Fort Washington, MD, when she saw a female with whom she had an ongoing feud walking. Barard exited the vehicle and enticed the victim to fight. The warrant further states that when the victim refused to fight, Barard allegedly brandished a black handgun which she pointed at the victim before driving away.  

After an investigation, Deputies located Barard at a residence in the 14000 block of April St. in Accokeek, MD. She was taken into custody and transported to the Prince George's County Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro, MD.
Barard is also charged with Assault First Degree, Assault Second Degree, Firearm Use/ Felony Violent Crime, and Handgun in Vehicle.

Deputies Arrest Motor Vehicle Homicide Suspect

 
Upper Marlboro, MD… The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest of Liam Benjamin Adepo of Hyattsville, MD on an indictment issued by the Circuit Court of Prince George's County on July 23, 2014 for failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily injury or death.
 
Warrant/Fugitive Deputies located Adepo at a residence in the 2700 block of Crest Ave in Cheverly, MD. He was taken into custody without incident and was transported to Hyattsville Jail where he is being held on a $100,000.00 bond.

Adepo is also charged with Hit and Run/ Return, Fail to Stop/ Bodily Injury, Homicide- MV/ Vessel Under the Influence, Driving While Suspended, Reckless Driving, and Negligent Driving.

Deputies Arrest First Degree Assault Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/ Fugitive Division has arrested Bernard Matthews of Lanham, MD on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault. The warrant was obtained by the Prince George’s County Police Department on July 15, 2014.

According to the warrant, on July 8, 2014, Matthews approached a gas station located in the 10000 block of Greenbelt Road in Greenbelt, MD and observed a General Motors Company (GMC) Envoy engine being stored behind the gas station.  Matthews walked across the street and shortly returned to the gas station driving a Sports Utility Vehicle in which he parked behind the store and took the Envoy engine before driving away. The warrant further states, that Matthews returned to the gas station later that afternoon and approached employees with a box cutter while demanding access to the store’s Closed Circuit Surveillance Video. The employees advised Matthews that they didn’t have access to the video and he fled prior to the police’s arrival.

On July 15, 2014, Warrant/ Fugitive deputies received the arrest warrant for Matthews and began an investigation into his whereabouts. On the same day, deputies located Matthews in the Emergency Room of a local hospital where he was treated and released for an unrelated medical concern.  Matthews was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.
Matthews is also charged with an additional count of First Degree Assault and Theft: $1,000 to under $10,000.

Media Advisory: Active Assailant Training Drill


Upper Marlboro, MD The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff will be conducting a training exercise on the grounds of the Courthouse located on Main Street in Upper Marlboro.  This will be a multi-agency event with more than 150 Public Safety personnel along with civilian participants.  The goal for this drill is to test law enforcement’s response to an active assailant/active shooting incident at the Courthouse complex.   

Due to safety concerns for all citizens and participants in the training exercise, streets leading into the Town proper will be controlled by law enforcement personnel from 7:00 am through 5: 00 pm on this date.  All vehicular traffic will be rerouted during the exercise; however pedestrian traffic will be allowed to local businesses and residences.  Main Street/State Route 725 will be closed at Governor Oden Bowie Drive on the East end and at Water Street on the West end.  Judges Drive will be closed at Pratt Street on the East end and Water Street on the West end.

Deputies Arrest First Degree Assault Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff’s Warrant/ Fugitive Division has arrested Norman Tate of District Heights, MD on an arrest warrant for First Degree Assault. The warrant was obtained by the Prince George’s County Police Department on July 11, 2014.

According to the warrant, on July 10, 2014, Tate and a male victim were engaged in a telephone argument. During the conversation, both males agreed to meet in the 8300 block of Old Marlboro Pike in Upper Marlboro, MD. When the victim arrived to the location, Tate approached and began striking the victim’s vehicle with a crowbar while holding a knife in the other hand. The warrant further states, the victim exited his vehicle in an attempt to stop Tate and a physical altercation ensued. When the victim attempted to retrieve the crowbar, Tate cut the victims arm and hand. Tate fled the scene prior to the police’s arrival.

On July 11, 2014, Warrant/ Fugitive deputies received the arrest warrant for Tate and began an investigation into his whereabouts. On July 22, deputies observed Tate driving a vehicle on Pennsylvania Avenue in District Heights, MD. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and positively identified Tate. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.
Tate is also charged with Second Degree Assault.
