Arrest of Theft Suspect Closes Two Felony Warrants

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest today of Thomas Bernard Meade on two arrest warrants for Felony Theft, obtained by the County Police District I detectives on March 8, and 21, 2012. According to the warrants, between September 1, 2011 and February 22, 2012, Meade allegedly stole two luxury vehicles with a total value of approximately $133,000.00.

Deputies investigating Meade’s whereabouts were led to the 4800 Block of Snowflower Blvd in Oxon Hill, MD, where they located and apprehended him without incident.

District I detectives were notified of Meade’s arrest and he was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of corrections where he is charged with two counts of Felony Theft and Removal of the Manufacturers Serial Number on a Motor Vehicle.

Sheriff’s Community Partnership Section Launches Second Summer Camp

Upper Marlboro, MD…Sheriff Melvin C. High, Chief Assistant Sheriff Darrin Palmer and Lt. Col. Roccapiore greeted students today as the Office of the Sheriff’s Community Partnership Section (CPS) started the second of two Deputies Assisting Youth (D.A.Y.) Corps Summer Camp sessions at Thomas Johnson Middle School yesterday. The camps include students from the middle schools where Sheriff’s Deputies are assigned during the school year.

Much like the first camp, students participate daily in an early morning fitness routine and group sessions ranging from Bullying, etiquette, proper grooming and positive self image. Guest Speakers include Chuck Smalley’s eMPAS educational performance arts group and WKYS 93.9 radio personality Angie Ange.

The second two week session will also include a tour of the University of Maryland, Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, Roller Skating, WUSA News Channel 9, the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial in Washington D.C.

Warrant Squad Arrests First Degree Assault Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD… The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest Monday of Ramon Ruano on a First Degree Assault warrant obtained by County Police, District I detectives on June 2, 2012.

According to the warrant, on May 21, 2012, in the 7900 block of 14th Avenue in Hyattsville, MD, Ruano’s vehicle struck another vehicle causing a traffic collision in which he refused to stop. When both vehicles did eventually stop, at 14^th Avenue and University Boulevard, a physical altercation ensued between parties of both vehicles in which Ruano is alleged to have hit another male –not indicated as the other driver - with a baseball bat.

Deputies investigating Ruano’s whereabouts were led to the 7000 block of 23^rd Avenue in Hyattsville, MD where Ruano was located and taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Prince George’s County Correctional Center where he is being held. District I detectives were notified of the arrest.

In addition to First Degree Assault, Ruano is also charged with three counts of Second Degree Assault.

Five Warrants Closed in Arrest of Theft Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest Tuesday of Richard Kevin Lee on a Felony Theft warrant obtained on May 7, 2012 by Prince George’s County Police (PGPD) Special Enforcement Division (S.E.D.) detectives.

According to the warrant, Lee conducted transactions at two area pawn shops over a three day period, March 8-10, 2012, pawning jewelry items that were alleged to have been stolen during a residential burglary in Calvert County.

Deputies investigating Lee’s whereabouts were led to the residence of his estranged wife in the 12400 block of Sandal Lane in Bowie, MD where Lee was located hiding in an upstairs bedroom and apprehended without incident.  Lee’s wife was also arrested, charged with Harboring a Felon/Fugitive and False Statement to a Peace Officer after repeatedly telling deputies she had not seen Lee and he was not in the house.  Both were transported to the Prince George’s County Correctional Center.  S.E.D. detectives were notified of Mr. Lee’s arrest.

In addition to the Theft warrant, four other warrants were closed, including Failure to Appear (FTA) – Assault Second Degree, Violation of Probation – Possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance, FTA – Disorderly Conduct and a Calvert County warrant for FTA – Burglary First Degree.

Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest Friday of Erick Hasheem Warrick on an arrest warrant for Armed Robbery obtained by the County Police on June 28, 2012. According to the Warrant, Warrick robbed a male victim who was working at a 7-11 convenience store located in the 9400 Block of Livingston Rd, in Fort Washington, MD.

The warrant indicates that during the January 30, 2012 robbery, Warrick entered the 7-11, produced a handgun and demanded money from the register. Deputies investigating Warrick’s whereabouts received information that he was to appear at the Upper Marlboro Courthouse for an unrelated matter on Friday July 6, 2012. Warrick appeared for the scheduled hearing and was taken into custody without incident.

Warrick was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections where he is charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery, First and Second Degree Assault, Use of a Firearm while Committing a Violent Crime, Illegal Possession of a Handgun and Theft under $100. District III detectives were notified of Warrick’s arrest.

Sheriff’s Community Partnership Section Launches Summer Camps

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff’s Community Partnership Section (CPS) launched its Deputies Assisting Youth (D.A.Y.) Corps Summer Camps Program.  Although the first day was delayed by last week’s storm, the CPS launched the first of two sessions for young people from the eight middle schools where Sheriff’s Deputies are assigned during the school year.  The D.A.Y. Corps Summer Program is designed to continue the encouragement and development of young people through their interaction with deputies.

The first session, held at Thurgood Marshall Middle School in Temple Hills, includes 15 cadets whose day began by learning how to properly raise and lower the American and Maryland flags.  After an early morning fitness routine, the cadets participated in classroom sessions with Deputies, Sheriff’s Explorers Post1696 members and guests who spoke on a variety of subjects such as bullying, etiquette, proper grooming and constructive and positive self-image.


“The camps are a great opportunity to continue to work with young people during the pivotal middle school years,” said Sgt. Hines, D.A.Y. Corps director and supervisor of the CPS.  “In a world that is more complicated than ever, our goal is to facilitate good social and problem-solving skills, and to make our camps an exciting experience for campers.


The experience encourages them to be good citizens at   home, at school and in their communities.” 


Guest speakers in the first week included Chuck Smalley of the eMPAS Group that teaches hard work and excellence to youth, providing them with examples of the importance of education and entrepreneurship and conflict resolution, while making it fun.Smalley’s presentation included cast members from his anti-bullying stage play entitle “Give Me Your Lunch Money.”   



In addition, local hairstylist Patricia Cheeks from Divine and Beauty Hair Salon in Temple Hills, MD and local master barber and former Sheriff’s Explorer Post advisor Lavon Lucas from the Largo One Barber Shop provided hair and skincare grooming tips – with demonstrations.


The first week also included a field trip and tour of TV News Channel 9, where campers met and talked with Washington D.C. icon J.C. Hayward. Other topics and field trips for the camp include conflict resolution, career and educational goal setting, a tour of the University of Maryland in College Park and the Bureau of Engraving in Washington, D.C. 


The D.A.Y. Corps’ second session will be held July 23^rd- August 3^rd at Thomas Johnson Middle School.

Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Attempted Murder Suspect

Upper Marlboro, MD…  The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest yesterday of Jasmine Marie James on an Attempted First Degree Murder warrant obtained by County Police, District III detectives on July 2, 2012. According to the warrant, James allegedly stabbed a male victim, with whom she was romantically involved, following an argument yesterday in the 6200 Block of Maxwell Dr, in Suitland Md.

Deputies were contacted by District III detectives for assistance in locating James. Following hours of surveillance and interviews, James surrendered and was taken into custody yesterday in the 5300 Block of Ludlow Dr, Temple Hills, MD.

James was transported to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections where she is charged with Attempted First and Second Degree Murder, First and Second Degree Assault, and Reckless Endangerment. District III detectives were notified of her arrest.

Deputies Arrest Suspect for Failure to Appear to Armed Robbery Sentencing

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest last Wednesday of Anthony Corbin after the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County issued a warrant for Corbin on March 2, 2012 for Failure to Appear (FTA) for sentencing for an Armed Robbery charge.


Deputies investigating Corbin’s whereabouts were led to an address in the 8400 block of Greenbelt Road in Greenbelt, where Deputies assigned to the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Warrant Task Force located and apprehended Corbin without incident.


A total of 4 warrants were closed as a result of Corbin’s arrest. He was transported to County Police District I detectives.


Corbin was also charged with three counts of 1^st and 2^nd degree Assault, use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence, attempted robbery, and conspiracy to robbery with a deadly weapon.

Warrant Deputies Arrest Suspect for Felony Theft Charge

Upper Marlboro, MD…The Warrant/Fugitive Division reported the arrest yesterday of Sonya Dykes on a Felony Theft warrant obtained on June 25, 2012 by Prince George’s County Police (PGPD) District III detectives.  

According to the Warrant, on March 21, 2012 Dykes is alleged to have taken $10,000 from the Prince George’s County Federal Credit Union where she was employed.

Deputies investigating Dykes’ whereabouts were led to the 10500 block of Campus Way South in Largo, MD where Dykes was located and apprehended without incident. She was transported to the Prince George’s County Correctional Center. District III detectives were notified of her arrest.
